Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Ref 42270)
 
Main Purpose of the Job
 
As a key member of the Assembly Manufacturing Engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining process controls and yields for specific manufacturing processes used to manufacture Infra-Red detector arrays.  An important aspect of the group's activity is to continuously improve process control techniques and disciplines for the manufacturing processes. Working closely with members of other departments across the site to address current manufacturing issues, implement preventative actions and process improvements, influence design for manufacture and develop processes for new products.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Take full responsibility for specific processes.  Daily review of all control measures and failure reports, and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively and promptly. 
  • Understand, control, improve, and document assembly processes for Infra-Red detector manufacture.  Report process yields. 
  • Lead the SPC activity for the Assembly area.  Understand causes of variability and how to test for their influence to improve process capability. 
  • Lead activities to implement robust solutions to any technical problems or identified improvements, including scoping and managing cost reduction programs. 
  • Support introduction of new products and processes, including preparing and executing training plans for production staff. 
  • Technically guide junior engineers within the team. 
  • Procurement of capital equipment. 
  • Liaise with members of the associated teams within R & D, design, assembly and test areas.

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Demonstrate full responsibility in production for a product or set of processes
  • Previous experience of monitoring yield and production data, using the information to target effort

Main Purpose of the Job

Working as part of the Millennium Focal Plane Array team, you will perform manufacturing assembly operations in accordance with manufacturing instructions and process controls.  The role will be carried out to meet internal and external customer requirements in terms of quality, cost and delivery.

Manufacturing Assistant (Plating Shop) (Ref 40410)

 
Main Purpose of the Job
 
 
This is a day shift position to work as part of the Component Product Team specifically within the Plating activity. You will be required to learn and perform plating skills and techniques appropriate to precious metals, base metals and ceramics in a production environment, in accordance with manufacturing instructions and process controls. The tasks will be varied and focus on improving capability for component and sub assembly manufacture. The role will be carried out to meet internal customer requirements in terms of quality, cost and delivery.

  • To operate equipment, use jigs and tools and to use hand skills to clean/plate components, sub assemblies and equipment parts.

To be responsible for and to complete silicon mixed signal design and development work to budget and on time.
To complete requirements capture, to develop concepts, complete floor planning and performance analysis, to complete mixed signal IC design, schematics and physical layout working at transistor, cell and top level
To perform analysis, detailed analogue and digital simulation, modeling and to complete problem solving
To complete chip assembly, hook up and verification tasks to demonstrate chip operation and performance
To generate detailed technical design documentation

Materials Production Team Leader (Ref 42192)
 
Main Purpose of the Job
 
You will be responsible for all aspects of production and delivery of epitaxial layers of the semiconductor cadmium mercury telluride (CMT) using metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE) growth techniques.  This role will demand a varied knowledge of physics, chemistry and general engineering skills together with the ability to liaise with internal and external customers. 
 
The production team will consist of operatives, technicians and junior engineers and the successful candidate will be responsible for their day-to-day supervision and will set the priorities.  The successful candidate will also be expected to grow and assess CMT layers by MOVPE on a regular basis.
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
 
Plan the production schedules for epitaxial layer requirements
Organise and direct the personnel for MOVPE requirements, on the growth and assessment kits to produce the required material
Fix the maintenance schedules for the growth and assessment kits and ensure they are carried out
Supply all production material requirements to both internal and external customers
Maintain and develop material databases
Be responsible for safe working environments in growth and assessment labs
Remain aware of new growth and characterisation developments, both internal and external

Main Purpose of the Job
 
We would consider newly qualified Physics/Chemists Graduates for this role.
Working as part of a team in the Materials Group, you will provide a hands-on role in the growth and characterisation of epitaxial layers of narrow band-gap semiconductor using MOVPE. This will demand a varied knowledge of physics, chemistry and general engineering skills together with the ability to liaise with internal and external customers. 
Tasks will include operation/maintenance of a pc-controlled epitaxial reactor, including substrate preparation, and assessment of epitaxial layers using microscopy, FTIR, transport properties, etc. In addition, we are scaling-up the growth process from 3 to a 6 -diameter capability and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to optimisation of the growth process and reactor function diagnostics. Good communication skills and computer literacy are therefore essential.
