Frequently Asked Questions

 
Q         Can I apply by sending in my CV?
A          No. We only accept completed on-line application forms
 
Q         Can I apply for more than one discipline/role?
A          You are welcome to indicate on the application form your interest in more than one discipline or role.
 
Q         I require a work permit to work in the UK, can I still apply for a development programme or placement?
A          We cannot provide work permits for applicants on our development or placement programmes.
 
Q         How long will the recruitment process take after completing my application on-line?
A          You will be immediately contacted by the Xchanging HR Recruitment team who will facilitate the on-line selection process. Should you be successful, you will be requested to attend one of our Assessment Centres and again, Xchanging HR Recruitment team will outline timescales for these within the recruitment process.
 
Q         What is SELEX GALILEO's policy regarding Equal Opportunities and Recruitment?
A         SELEX GALILEO operates an Equal Opportunities policy in its recruitment procedures and welcomes applications from all job seekers. All our vacancies require the individual to be security cleared and be eligible to work in the UK.  A significant proportion of our business is currently engaged on contracts that are governed by UK and Foreign government security regulations. Due to the sensitive nature of this work there are restrictions imposed upon these contracts and visibility of any information related to them. UK nationals can usually work on these contracts. Other groups can have restrictions which may limit their career development or their ability to work on specific projects. 
 
Q         Where can I find a financial report or history on the Company's financial performance?
A          Our website provides a good overview of our Company, including annual reports
 
Q         What are the deadlines for applying for the Graduate Development programmes?
A          We recruit from September through to June, but it is recommended that you apply to us by end of December
 
Q         What are the deadlines for applying for industrial or summer placements?
A          We recruit from November to April.
 
Q         What are the deadlines for applying for the Apprentice schemes?
A          We recruit from January to April
 
Q         I graduated 18 months ago, can I still apply to a Graduate Development programme?
A          You are welcome to apply, but it is advisable to consider if the development schemes offer the relevant skills and career development you want.  You may also like to explore other career opportunities within SELEX GALILEO. A member of our Recruitment team is always happy to talk through any questions or concerns you may have.
 
Q         What information will I be given in preparation for attending an assessment centre?
A          You will be sent through guidance on how to prepare for attending one of our Assessment Centres by Xchanging HR Recruitment team.
 
Q         What happens if I cannot attend an assessment centre on the date given?
A          We will actively try to accommodate you on an alternative assessment centre that runs throughout the year. 
 
Q         Will I be able to be reimbursed for travel expenses in connection with attending the assessment centre?
A          Yes all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. More details are available by contacting a member of the Xchanging HR Recruitment team.
 
Q         If successful, when will I be given an offer of employment?
A          You will be issued a conditional offer of employment as soon as practicable after the Assessment Centre. This offer will be subject to obtaining successful security clearance, medical check and completion of your academic qualification to the required entry standard.
 
Q         I understand I have to be security cleared to be able to commence employment. What does this entail and how long does it take?
A          You will be asked to complete a Security questionnaire which we will forward to the Defence Vetting Agency.  They will determine the level of clearance granted however the length of time the clearance takes is determined by the clearance required for the post (which follows MOD guidelines) and there is not definitive time-scale.
 
Q         When would I commence working for SELEX GALILEO?
A          Graduates usually commence employment at the end of August, beginning of September, although there is sometimes the opportunity/requirement to commence earlier, but this is mutually agreed on a case by case basis. 
 
Q         In accepting a placement, when would I commence working for SELEX GALILEO?
A          Applicants offered an industrial placement will commence during July and August. Those undertaking a Summer placement would commence during June
 
Q         As an apprentice, when would I commence working for SELEX GALILEO?
A          You will be asked to start during August and September.
 
Q         Where will I be based?
A          This is dependent upon the specific opportunity you have applied for. You will be able to talk further with our Recruitment team.
 
Q         Before starting with SELEX GALILEO, who can I talk to, to get further information on the company or local site?
A          You will be assigned a 'Buddy' who is someone already working within the organisation (usually a graduate themselves). They will be able to help you as you prepare to join us. Our website also provides a useful factual introduction to the Company and is constantly updated with regards to our business achievements and products. The Recruitment team within Xchanging HR Services are also happy to answer any questions you may have.
 
Q         What assistance is given to finding somewhere to live local to the site?
A          Temporary accommodation assistance for up to six months supports your relocation to an area local to the site and HR have a list of letting agencies to help you if renting.   
 
Q         What are the longer term learning & development opportunities? (e.g. accreditation)
A          SELEX GALILEO are committed to continuous learning and development, supporting employees financially through professional training that leads to accreditation and membership of professional institutions.
 
Q         How much time will I be required to spend at college?
A          Applicants for technical apprenticeships are required to spend up to 9 months full time at college, then day release for the remainder of the scheme. Business apprentices undertake day release throughout the duration of the scheme
 
Q         What options are there for further educational study?
A          It is our intention to offer excellent career opportunities during our Technical and Business Apprentice Schemes and beyond when taking up a permanent role with us. Therefore we encourage continuous learning and development and support progression through further education, as well as offering in-company training programmes designed to develop key skills and business knowledge.
 
Q         Are there opportunities for sponsorship following completion of an industrial placement?
A          SELEX GALILEO do sponsor a limited number of students following their industrial placement with us. This is determined on a case by case basis.
 
Q         Do I receive a salary whilst on placement?
A          Yes. Our Industrial placements have competitive salaries.
