Which three words best describe SELEX S&AS UK?    Innovation, innovation, innovation

"I chose the SELEX S&AS UK Apprenticeship scheme since I would gain two National Certificates (NC) and two Higher National Certificates (HNC) during the four years. In some other companies I looked at, you would only gain one NC and one HNC in the same time.

I'm part of an Electronic/Mechanical Apprentice programme, which involves gaining hands-on experience of the design and manufacture process. I've mainly been involved in production engineering, although I've also done some test and development engineering.

I've really enjoyed working on the latest defence technology alongside a wide range of experienced people, who have helped me learn every step of the way. When I've completed my Apprenticeship, I'd like to further my education while continuing to work with the latest technology."

Which three words best describe SELEX S&AS UK?  Enjoyable, challenging, rewarding

I joined the SELEX S&AS UK Business Apprenticeship scheme for a number of reasons. Firstly, it enabled me to gain experience in different departments and understand more about how they operate. Secondly, I was able to study towards a HNC in Business and an NVQ level 3 in Business Administration.

During the two year scheme, Business Apprentices spend four months in six different departments within the company. These can include the Finance, Procurement and Commercial departments. This enables the Business Apprentice to see how the departments work and how they fit into the business as a whole. During my placements I have been able to meet and work closely with both customers and suppliers. I have also been involved in the launch of a new project and gained an understanding of the day to day financial running of the business.

Before I joined SELEX S&AS UK, I was unsure of what career path I wanted to take, but by being given the opportunity to understand and experience how different areas of the business work, I have been able to establish the areas that I would like to progress in. I was also undecided about whether to attend University, but I am glad I chose to join the SELEX S&AS UK Business Apprenticeship Scheme. I feel that whilst I have still had the opportunity to learn, I have also gained a lot of hands-on experience which you cannot get in a classroom, and of course, I get paid for it.
