and people-trafficking, smuggling of drugs and other contraband, not to mention
terrorist and hostile military incursion. Economic exclusion zones (EEZs)
must also be policed to protect a nation's undersea assets, such as fisheries
and oil and gas fields.

detect small, fast moving vessels and analyse their behavior to help
distinguish suspect targets from legitimate craft.

resources can be used more efficiently. Forces can be dispatched to
investigate or intercept specific targets rather than to undertake broad
sweeping patrols.
