Border Management

Smart integrated systems to ensure borders remain open but secure.
Border control authorities have a challenging task.  Not only do they have to guard against smuggling, illegal migration, and increasingly nowadays, terrorist movements; they also need to allow the free passage of legitimate traffic and to comply with international agreements.

At SELEX Sensors and Airborne Systems (S&AS) UK we have a range of sensor and communications technologies.  Combined with our sub system integration expertise we can offer comprehensive solutions to border management issues.

Our sensors can be used in various combinations to monitor remote inland and coastal borders.  Conventional and infrared cameras, radar, motion detectors and acoustic sensors are available.  They can be mounted on towers and other fixed installations, provided in portable packages as temporary monitoring stations, or mounted on
ships and land vehicles to provide a mobile capability.  Secure, high speed communications technology connects the deployed sensors with central control and intercept forces to form a complete system.

Other sensors are available to support the policing of crossing points.  These allow the smooth flow of legitimate traffic, while monitoring for illegal migrants and prohibited substances.  Rapid, reliable identification of individuals supports authorities controlling the passage of people, while for the control of materials, a range of sensors unobtrusively detect contraband, weapons, explosives and biological and radiological substances.  These, integrated with central command facilities and appropriate procedures ensure that potential situations are rapidly and safely controlled with minimum disruption.
