Electro-Optical Payloads for Earth Observation Missions

SELEX Galileo has developed a unique competence in mission payloads, from design to manufacturing and testing of optical payloads, mastering optics, focal plane assembly, electronics and precision mechanics, with outstanding performance for high quality observation of the Earth and of distant and faint space objects. SELEX Galileo has developed state-of-the-art spectrometers and hyper-spectral cameras for the observation of the Earth such as SLSTR, GOME, PRISMA and TXA.

GOME-2 - Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment
GOME-2 is an optical spectrometer contained within the Eumetsat Polar System (EPS) for daily global retrieval of total and vertical ozone profiles and detection of minor atmospheric constituents. The scanning telescope senses solar radiation back-scattered by the Earth in the ultraviolet and visible part of the spectrum and then transmits to ground control for full data processing and map generation.

PRISMA
PRISMA (PRecursore IperSpettrale della Missione Applicativa) Payload is a Hyperspectral electro-optical sensor in development for the Italian Space Agency for a small mission (<500 kg) for Earth Observation (environmental monitoring and risk management). The Hyperspectral Payload, which is currently in phase C/D of development and Flight Model realisation, is scheduled for launch in 2011.

SLSTR
The Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) for the GMES Sentinel 3 mission is devoted to operational oceanographic and land services. SLSTR is an enhanced Radiometer based on ATSR (Along-Track Scanning Radiometer), designed for ocean and land-surface temperature measurement. With an accuracy of 0.2 Kelvin degrees and an on ground spatial resolution of 1 Km, the SLSTR is onboard the Sentinel 3 payload.
